P.O.D North Haven

August 31, 2008

It just so happen that my campsite in Mullins Cove had quite the view. I don't believe that there is a bad view from anywhere on this island.

If you look just above the "o" in moonlight below the photo keep going up and you'll see a tiny red dot. That red dot is a lighthouse on an Island. I'm not sure which one, but I think it is Monhegan Island Light or Isle au Haut Light. There was another white light to the left, but it must not have been lit when I made the exposure.

I'm expecting the Island natives to set me straight here or maybe blogcritic08 will enlighten us.

P.O.D North Haven

August 30, 2008

Down the road a bit from Waterman's Community Center I saw this. It looked so inviting that I had to stop and record this image. I so wanted to walk to the top of the hill and enjoy the view from the chairs.

Here we are again in North Haven. This time we are viewing a single light on the outside of Waterman's Community Center. Just above a window.

I really like the lines and contrast of this image.

Wow was that a bore, here is a great shot of Katie flying through the air. Katie dances with the Robinson Ballet here in Bangor.

She must be four feet off the ground!

This shot was taken on the Island of North Haven, which is 12 miles off the coast of Maine from Rockland. The Eric Hopkins Gallery is located just to the left of the Maine Ferry Terminal (as you are getting off the ferry).

Yesterday I mentioned that I would do the Photo of the Day until I could come up with something else. Well I am glad to announce that my next project will be Painting With Light - PWL. PWL is usually done at night and with multiply exposures or timed exposures. During the exposure you use a flash or other light source to illuminate only the parts of the scene that you want exposed and let the time exposure fill in the rest with the natural light.

I'm excited about this new project and I think you will be too once you see what its all about.

So keep checking back as PWL is coming soon!

By popular demand, I am going to at least do a photo of the day
until I can come up with something new. P.O.D. is "Photo of the Day."

Iraq Death Toll

Today I was discussing with a friend about my blog. One of the things that was brought up was the war in Iraq and the death toll. A photo in "The People I meet and the Places I go" shows a house with a flag for every man and woman that has been killed on the front lawn. At the time the photo was taken the count was 4,136.

As I think about this image I wonder, Is this a count of "Thank God its only 4,136 souls" or is it a count of rage that 4,136 of our brave men and woman have died in this war.

December 7, 1941. Pearl Harbor

In a matter of just a few hours on that morning we lost more then 2,600 of our soldiers.

June 6 - July 24, 1944. Normandy

During this short time the allied forces suffered over 120,000 wounded or dead.

So lets be sad for those we have lost, and be glad it has not been more!

The People I Meet and the Places I Go. Day Seven

Here it is, day seven. We have been to Bangor, Bar harbor, Bass Harbor, Brewer, Dover Foxcroft, Old Town, Orono, Somesville and Surry. We've seen gas drop in price over the entire week. Today being even lower at $3.64 9/10 in Ellsworth. We have met the neighbors, Howard at the Brewer Redemption Center, Jason, Aaron and Jen from my favorite Irving store, my niece Laura, Andre who is working on getting his Pilots license, Kendall at Dwitt Field, My friend and Pilot Chris. We have seen some of Britt's senior photos as well as Addie's. Dave and Steve showed us some moves on the skate boards while Adam from School Street Picture Framing is seen making a frame...was it yours? My friend Noretta is having a baby and my Grandfather Perley selling gas, six gallons for a buck. We met Chris from Maine Divers North and John and Deb from New Hampshire, who are celebrating their second anniversary.

Hey! This isn't Irving....See I still got the plug in there?

The People I Meet and the Places I Go. Day Six

Not only did the gas prices drop at my local Irving station, my check for plugging them also arrived today :)

It's been really busy today so I don't have much for you today. I did not meet anyone new today. I left the work horse home and only had a point and shoot with me.

So today's images are all done with a point and shoot camera.

This isn't that easy with a point and shoot

The People I Meet and the Places I Go. Day Five

Recap! For a week I plan on photographing the people that I meet and/or see during my day and the places I go.

Wow! Day five already.
Gas is holding steady at $3.69 9/10 a gallon.

Today I got together with Mike, Linda and Addie to do Addie's senior portraits. Addie dances for the dance company that I do photography for so it made for another fun day of shooting.

I love these trees

I went to the post office to do my mailing and then hooked up with Chris and headed to the coast. We headed to Bass Harbor Lighthouse, the country's most photographed lighthouse. On the way we had to stop in Somesville to photograph the bridge. Yeah I know, but we had to do it. Once we arrived at Bass Harbor we met John and Deb From New Hampshire. We had good conversations while waiting for the sun to set. John and Deb are here on their 2nd anniversary! Congrats!

The People I Meet and the Places I Go. Day Four

Last night I went to my friend Chris' house to drop off some scuba tanks. He's teaching some classes and I'm going to tag along. Maybe try some underwater photography or Video. If you are interested in learning to dive you can check out his website at Maine Divers North.

Chris getting gear ready for the next class.

Gas prices for today are the same, but it was super cheap back in 1941 when in Bangor at Pomroy's Center Street Garage you could get six gallons for a buck! No kidding.

I saw my friend Noretta today. She's going to have a baby in November.
