I'm watching the sunset and the bees float about the flowers when the light begun to take on that magical glow. I grabbed my camera out of my truck and mounted my 11mm lens. I took one shot from a couple feet away and then this one right up close. Just before I released the shutter this bee came into view and made the shot.

This image was taken right at sunset with an 11mm lens and a SB800 flash set to TTL with a -1EV Bowerbank area.

This dosn't look real, but it is. This ox is one of many that resides in Bowerbank Maine. This massive animal can run fast and jump high and I found that you should not run in its presents. These seemed quite tame, but I was with the owners when I got up close. There are things you want to know before approaching these giants.

Its hair will grow to be about 10 inches long in the winter time.

Friends

Fall In Maine

You didn't think I wouldn't show you any landscapes did you?

Fall In Maine

Still trekking through the park, I captured this image. They’re five average guys, from salesmen to doctors, who miss the good rock and roll music of the 70s, 80s and 90s. "There is a hunger for our kind of music," says lead singer John Dickey. "Most of today’s music sounds the same. We’re bringing back rock and roll the way it should be." The Rock Dox now have two CDs under their belt, 2002's "Fully Medicated" and 2004's "House Call." The band continues to play to sell out crowds all over the Northeast.

If you’re a rock fan, you’ve likely been unhappy the last decade or so, as rap, metal and boy bands have dominated the charts. You are not alone. According to a recent article in Newsweek magazine, that so-called "garage rock" is making rock and roll cool again - and nobody knows it better than the Rock Dox. With a range of sound reminiscent of everything from Journey to Van Halen, with driving rhythm and top-shelf vocals, the Rock Dox take you back to the good old days in a whole new way. They’re five guys from every walk of life with one thing in common: they want rock back on a roll.

The Rock Dox were originally the brainchild of three local doctors – thus the name. Over the years the band has evolved to include singer John Dickey, guitarist Greg Beidelman, Dr. Hank Ford on bass, drummer Rich Newland, and Brian Mosher on keyboard and rhythm guitar.

These five guys, along with Justin on sound and Jarrod on lights, are spurring a rock revolution with "House Call." "We love to play with our audience, not at them," explained Hank. "We’re all part of the same party."

P.O.D Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

I was hiking through the jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico when I came across this place. Dr. Ford, leader of the band and one of the founding fathers of the Rock Dox, is the only original member still with the band. On bass he is responsible for the grumble of rumble that is the core foundation of the band’s low end. He’s half of the energy that keeps the sweat pouring, the toes tapping and our blood pumping through the pounding Rock Dox groove. Hank says the Rock Dox’s music is all about chemistry and communication. “It’s a combination of people together looking for a common sound,” he said during a recent interview. “Some songs, like We Go On, are really representative of what we loved to listen to - music with lyrics that make sense, with harmony, guitar, chorus - all together in a sound that works.” Hank also is a co-owner of Slopes Restaurant, which is a micro-brewery.

Catch the Rock Dox at the Connection in Presque Isle on September 26 & 27 from 9pm - 1am

P.O.D

On Saturday Lynn and I took a ride up to Greenville for the Seaplane Fly In. His solid rhythm guitar and fancy finger work on the keyboards takes the Rock Dox to a new dimension. Brian describes their music as an antidote for those that miss rock and roll, miss guitar solos, miss the melodic sound of Journey to the grumble of AC/DC. “We’re bringing back the rock-and-roll that we all loved. We’re a party band that does what few do anymore, and we know it works.” Brian lives in Presque Isle with his wife and three kids. He describes his first love as writing music. There was another white light to the left, but it must not have been lit when I made the exposure.

I'm expecting the Island natives to set me straight here or maybe blogcritic08 will enlighten us.

Burnt Island in the Moonlight.

Back in Bangor the Robinson Ballet Dancers are coming out of the woodwork.

L to R Ava, Abbie, Matt, Audrey, Julie, Katie, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Chelsea & Katie.

P.O.D North Haven

August 30, 2008

Down the road a bit from Waterman's Community Center I saw this. During the exposure you use a flash or other light source to illuminate only the parts of the scene that you want exposed and let the time exposure fill in the rest with the natural light.

I'm excited about this new project and I think you will be too once you see what its all about.

So keep checking back as PWL is coming soon!
painting with light

P.O.D August 27, 2008

By popular demand, I am going to at least do a photo of the day
until I can come up with something new. One of the things that was brought up was the war in Iraq and the death toll. A photo in "The People I meet and the Places I go" shows a house with a flag for every man and woman that has been killed on the front lawn. At the time the photo was taken the count was 4,136.

As I think about this image I wonder, Is this a count of "Thank God its only 4,136 souls" or is it a count of rage that 4,136 of our brave men and woman have died in this war.

December 7, 1941. Pearl Harbor

In a matter of just a few hours on that morning we lost more then 2,600 of our soldiers.

June 6 - July 24, 1944. We have met the neighbors, Howard at the Brewer Redemption Center, Jason, Aaron and Jen from my favorite Irving store, my niece Laura, Andre who is working on getting his Pilots license, Kendall at Dwitt Field, My friend and Pilot Chris. We have seen some of Britt's senior photos as well as Addie's. Dave and Steve showed us some moves on the skate boards while Adam from School Street Picture Framing is seen making a frame...was it yours? My friend Noretta is having a baby and my Grandfather Perley selling gas, six gallons for a buck. We dodged some rain and weather and headed back home.

Chris

Dewitt Field

Chris

Kendall

Look at the rain

I don't know what lake this is

This stream comes from Chemo Pond and heads right through Lenord's Mill and then onto the Penobscot river.

Did I mention that we went to mobile and got a soda? Gas there was even less then at Irving.

Cheaper gas

Chris and I then headed to City Park on Stillwater Ave where we hiked the bogwalk. We got a few images and then the rain caught us.

There were all kinds of bumble bees

Eastern Pitcher Plant

Andre is working on getting his pilot's license

Stump

The Board Walk

At this point I am on the verge of being late for my niece's birthday dinner at the Olive Garden. We made it on time and had a great dinner. We also ran into a couple of friends Mike & Noretta, but I didn't get any photos as I had already put my camera back into the car.

My niece Laura!

That is how my Sunday went. Let me know what you think.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://garysoucy.blogspot.com/2008/08/day-two.html' title='The People I Meet and the Places I Go. For the next week I plan on photographing the people that I meet and/or see during my day and the places I go.

August 9, 2008.

To start with, today I went to get my coffee at Irving and met Jason as I do every morning.

My local Irving

Jason-He thinks he works for Circle K
Here I Am To Save The Day...Circle K

I went back to Irving (Which is now Circle K but I like Irving Better so...) for more coffee. At Irving I met Aaron. Aaron is the store's assistant manager. Aaron did not give me any free coffee. I thought it would be I nice thing for him to do!

Aaron

I returned bags and bags of bottles at the Brewer Redemption Center. This is where I met Howard. Howard and his wife own and operate the Redemption Center.

The Sign Pretty Much Says it all.

Howard Hard at work.

The thing my wife likes about the Brewer Redemtion Center is that they have baby wipes to wipe your hands after you handle the bottles.

Hell just wipe your hands on your jeans, be a man. (imagine Tim The Tool Man Taylor's Grunt here!)

My neighbors are painting their house. Neighbor Girls lugs the paint as Neighbor Guy is coming down after it, and Neighbor Boy mows my lawn. I have great neighbors.

She didn't want her picture taken. I thought I'd shoot and run before she dumped the paint on me.

He's got a big house to paint.

I think he was only mowing my lawn cause his dad has a cool Ztrack mower!

I had a meeting to go to in Dover Foxcroft at the Mayo Regional Hospital's Resource Center.

Looks like we're having all kinds of fun huh?

Well that was my Saturday let me know what you think!
